Fats typically do not influence fat-making hormones; however, they do have the ability to stress the liver, which indirectly affects hormone flows through the liver.

The whole myth that fat is the big culprit making everyone fat doesn’t pan out when you’re talking about hormones. Fat has little effect on fat storing hormones. Many people put too much importance on restricting fats in the diet. Yes, it is true that with Liver types low fats are best; however, this is not because fat turns into fat, but because fat stresses the liver.

The benefits of a low-fat diet have even been rejected in the mainstream media as a factor in lowering risk for disease. And we wonder why people are so confused about nutritional facts. There are also studies showing that a low-fat diet inhibits the fat burning hormone testosterone. This is why you need to include nuts, seeds, avocados, flax oil and olive oil in your diet, as well as the other fats listed in this section.

What most people don’t understand is that carbohydrates (breads, sugars, wine, juice, etc.) are changed into fat and cholesterol much more readily than fat and cholesterol foods are turned into adipose tissue and increased blood cholesterol. In other words, low-fat cookies will make fat and cholesterol faster than cholesterol-laden eggs will. And eggs are rich in the antidote to cholesterol—lecithin.

An important point to know about cholesterol is that when dietary intake of cholesterol foods is high, the body will make less, and when dietary cholesterol intake is low, the body will make more. This explains why many people still have high cholesterol despite consuming less of it. It is also often not understood that cholesterol is only present in animal products and is not found in nuts, avocados, seeds or olives.

Another interesting factor concerning fat and cholesterol is that a good portion of your body is made of fat—brain, nerves, hormones and glands. Your body is constantly replacing these tissues with dietary fats. So, despite fats having more calories per gram compared with carbohydrates, some of these fats are used to replace body parts. This is especially true under stress, as the adrenals need to build more stress hormones. Carbohydrates are not used to replace body parts but are used only for fuel and vitamin and mineral supply. This is why excess carbohydrates are readily converted to fat as storage.

Hormonally speaking, eating carbohydrates is much more devastating for weight gain than the consumption of fat; and some studies even show that you will lose more weight on a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet than on a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet.

Satisfying Effect

Cravings come from letting your blood sugars drop too low. When you eat fats, hormones are triggered to make you feel satisfied and eliminate the cravings. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, will not trigger these hormones but will do the opposite and inhibit the satisfying effect, causing more hunger. This is why eating sugar and refined carbohydrates will create a desire to consume more an hour later. Many people are eating the wrong foods, which keeps them craving and hungry all the time. Eggs—especially with the yolks—raw nuts, avocados and cheese are excellent foods to stimulate certain hormones and to decrease hunger and cravings.

If a person craves sweets after a meal, they are usually deficient in or missing in their diet the amino acid tryptophan. Taking 500 mg of L-tryptophan before bed will usually help these cravings fairly quickly. This amino acid turns into serotonin and is good for depression as well as sleep.

The Adrenal and Ovary body types require more fats than the Liver and Thyroid types. In the initial program, you will start out with very low fats, then over time gradually increase them to your optimum level.
